MS Amlin Underwriting appoints Johan Slabbert and Martin Hudson as non executive directors

MS Amlin Underwriting (MS AUL), the Lloyd’s re/insurer, has appointed Johan Slabbert and Martin Hudson as non-executive directors.

Slabbert will also be appointed chairman of the MS AUL board, taking over from Gilles Bonvarlet who will transition to an independent non-executive director role. Hudson will take on additional duties as chairman of the MS AUL underwriting committee.

Meanwhile Derek Thornton, who serves as a non-executive director, will retire from the board.

Slabbert has more than two decades of international experience in both chief executive and chief financial officer roles. He also serves as chairman of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company (Europe). He began his career at AIG before joining Chaucer as chief financial officer, where he was also chief executive for two years. He also served as operating partner and chief executive at Augustus Specialty.

Hudson has 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles across various re/insurance  companies. He currently advises Apollo Syndicate Management, Sirius and Old Mutual Specialty Insurance in various non-executive capacities. He formerly headed Travelers Insurance Company and Old Mutual Specialty Insurance, and worked at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Underwriting at Lloyd’s as director of underwriting.

Tom Clementi, chief executive of MS Amlin Underwriting, predicted the appointments will make an immediate impact at MS Amlin. “Today’s announcement reflects the positive momentum underway at MS AUL, following the recent appointment of five senior leaders within the specialty business, which further demonstrates our ability to attract leading industry talent,” he said.

The appointments are subject to regulatory approval.
