Markel International has named Simon Wilson as its new managing executive of global strategy for insurance operations, and Henrik Bjornstad as managing director of the national markets division.
Meanwhile John Enright, strategy and development executive, has been promoted to head of strategy, assuming responsibility for the strategy team based in London.
The promotions take effect from January 1, 2020.
Wilson, who is currently managing director of national markets, will be based in Richmond, Virginia, and will report to Robert Cox, president and chief operating officer for insurance operations. In his new role he is responsible for the global strategy teams in both Richmond and London. He remains on the Markel International board.
Enright will report to Wilson.
Bjornstad is current head of strategy for insurance operations. In his new role, which is based in London, he will report to William Stovin, president of Markel International.
Stovin said that under Wilson’s management the national markets division has become a fast-growing and profitable multinational enterprise. He also praised Bjornstad’s role in setting up and developing an invaluable strategy function for Markel.
