Aspen names new head of outwards reinsurance as part of group restructure
Aspen Insurance Holding has hired Laurie Shane as its new group head of outwards reinsurance.
Shane joins Aspen from Markel Corporation where she was managing director of global ceded reinsurance, developing outward reinsurance strategies to reduce group earnings volatility, protect the balance sheet and manage third party credit risk.
Before Markel she served as vice president of corporate insurance at QBE for the Americas, establishing its corporate insurance department. She was also formerly senior vice president of capital management and reinsurance at Delos Insurance Group, and vice president of reinsurance placements and operations at Praetorian Financial Group / Clarendon.
Shane takes up her new post on June 1, reporting to Brian Tobben, chief executive officer of Aspen Capital Partners.
Meanwhile, Aspen’s outwards reinsurance team is being realigned to work with the Aspen Capital Markets team under Tobben’s leadership. The new team will be known as Aspen Capital Partners.
Tobben said: “Bringing outwards reinsurance together with Aspen Capital Markets will help us deliver on our growth strategy while increasing collaboration and optimising our capital position. The combined team will capture efficiencies from overlapping process and benefit from leveraged expertise.”
