Sequant Re to liquidate after struggling to raise funds

Bermuda-based Sequant Re Holdings, the collateralized reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) investments start-up, will be liquidated after the vehicle struggled to raise enough funds.

The firm was founded in 2014 by Guy Cloutier, an experienced entrepreneur in the insurance space who previously held the position of senior vice president of alternative risk solutions and chief actuary of American Safety Reinsurance.

Cloutier said that a formal announcement would be made in the coming days.

When it launched, Sequent said it wanted to lower barriers for investors and expand the reach of risk transfer and securitisation solutions in the reinsurance market. “Sequant Re will allow investors of any size to participate in the risk transfer business with as few limitations as possible, whether the commitment is short term and opportunistic or long term and strategic,” it said at the time.
