Rendez-Vous de Septembre cancelled for the second year amid ongoing COVID restrictions

The Rendez-Vous de Septembre (RVS), the re/insurance industry’s annual gathering in Monte Carlo September, has been cancelled following weeks of speculation that it might take place in a different format.

RVS admitted in a statement that, with vaccination campaigns being rolled out across the world, the situation could look considerably better in the second half of 2021, but for now it remains impossible to predict how quickly social distancing restrictions will be lifted.

Claude Tendil, president of the RVS event, which has been running since 1957, said in a statement that the guiding principle behind the decision was safety, but insisted he has “faith in 2022”.

This is the second year in a row that the event has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement said: “Faced with major uncertainties regarding the health situation and various restrictions in terms of movement and assembly in September, all the members of the RVS Association have decided to cancel the 2021 conference. Nevertheless, in the week of September 13 the organizing committee will organize conferences and round tables on the insurance and reinsurance industry. The next RVS should therefore take place from September 10 to 14, 2022, in Monaco.”

Tendil said: “The guiding principle behind this decision was above all the safety of the women and men invited to attend the RVS. The professional encounters and the quality of the discussions that take place in Monte Carlo are irreplaceable; we have faith in 2022."
