QBE Re continues to build out Bermuda office with SiriusPoint poach

QBE Re has hired Melanie Lopes from SiriusPoint as its new assistant vice president and lead treaty underwriter in its Bermuda office. She’ll report to David Cary, senior vice president and underwriting manager and head of property and casualty in Bermuda.

Lopes joined SiriusPoint on its 2021 merger with Third Point Re, where she was assistant vice president. Before that, she served as an underwriting assistant with Allied World Reinsurance.

The hire follows the appointment of Tracey Gibbons in September 2021 as head of QBE Re Bermuda and the recruitment of Greg van der Made and Lauritz Schwarz as treaty underwriter as underwriting assistant, respectively, last year.

“Mel is part of the continued expansion of the Bermuda office and QBE Re as a whole,” said Gibbons. “We are building the team and the product offering to be able to provide our brokers and clients with the support they need across multiple classes with best-in-class underwriters.”
