Catastrophe insurance data specialists PERILS has given an initial loss estimate for European windstorm Nadia, also known as Malik.
It expects the storm, which hit Scotland, Northern Europe and Germany from 29 to 30 January 2022, to cost €272 million. PERILS also plans to provide loss estimates for a series of storms in mid-February that followed it shortly.
According to its analysts, most of the losses were concentrated in Germany, which accounted for over half the total. Losses in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the UK were, by contrast, comparatively modest. They were also limited in the Netherlands and Austria, as well as Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, territories which PERILS does not cover.
