Mosaic expands summer intern programme
Mosaic Insurance has expanded its summer intern programme to include five students at its Bermuda, New York, Chicago, and London offices.
Meron Simons and Kriston Adams are working as communications and strategy interns at the global specialty insurer’s Bermuda headquarters.
Meghan Haran is based at Mosaic’s Chicago office, where she supports the cyber underwriting team.
Gaurav Roychowdhury is in New York, where he works with the firm’s corporate finance and accounting team.
And David Glendinning is at the company’s London office, learning pre-underwriting processes in Mosaic’s financial institutions division.
“We’re excited to be expanding our summer internship programme this year across business lines,” said Haviland Dunne, Mosaic’s global HR business partner.
“We value developing and immersing junior talent within our business. Our 2023 interns will have the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, learning about operations and the company’s unique business model. This provides them with invaluable insights and exposure, which we believe are key in a successful career.”
Simons is a graduate of Saltus Grammar School, Bermuda, who starts Marketing studies at Nottingham Trent University, UK, this autumn. Adams recently graduated as Head Boy of the island’s Berkeley Institute and plans to pursue an associate degree in Business Management.
Mosaic selected both Bermudians through local community engagement initiatives: Simons was a member of Bermuda’s Future Leaders programme, where Mosaic’s first intern, law student McKenzie-Kohl Tuckett, is an assistant director. Adams was a participant in Berkeley’s long-running mock-interview program for graduating students, when he met a Mosaic executive volunteer.
“Our initial focus was on preparing students for scholarship interviews, a crucial step toward securing their future academic and professional pursuits,” said the school’s principal, Keisha Douglas. “Our efforts have yielded impressive results, and we continue to leverage the valuable input and support of Berkeley alumni, community members, and industry partners to ensure our graduating seniors are fully prepared for the real-world job market.”
Haran is going into her fourth year at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL, studying International Peace & Conflict. She is spending the summer immersed in Mosaic’s fastest-growing specialty line, cyber, where she assists with pre-underwriting and rating accounts, and has been researching the topic of weaponisation, where cybercriminals develop malware to attack systems and processes.
Roychowdhury has completed his first year at Rutgers University, NJ, studying for a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Business Analytics & Information Technologies, with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. At Mosaic, he assists with analysis of the company’s accounting and finance functions, supporting monthly closing and reporting. He is also analyzing the firm’s annual statement filings.
Glendinning is a third-year student at Royal Agricultural University, Gloucestershire, UK, working toward his BSc in International Business Management. He supports Mosaic’s financial institutions team by pre-underwriting and rating risks, gathering peer reviews, sending written risks down to bind, and keeping the team’s risk tracker up to date.
Mosaic began its summer internship program in 2021, just a few months after the company launched, and has continued to find networking and professional opportunities for program alumni. Tuckett, now a student at Bristol University, UK, was invited to join Mosaic’s claims team for a learning stint last year at its London office, as well as a virtual experience programme with Mosaic’s law firm, RPC. This autumn, 2022 Bermudian intern Skyler Powell, a recent graduate of Rollins College, FL, returns to Mosaic in a full-time position in London as a Junior Underwriter Trainee.
