Liberty Mutual Re strengthens casualty treaty team in Connecticut

Liberty Mutual Re has appointed Susan Burke as vice president and director of assumed reinsurance in its casualty treaty department in its Stamford, Connecticut office.

She joins from the reinsurance unit of Swiss Re where she was senior treaty underwriter, and before that vice president and claims expert. She has also served as a claims manager and resident US counsel at the Gerling Group in Germany, and started her career in the insurance unit of a major international law firm.

Burke reports to Thomas Greene, LM Re’s head of US casualty and is responsible for producing, underwriting and servicing a portfolio of casualty treaty reinsurance accounts.

Dieter Winkel, president of Liberty Mutual Re, cited Burke’s background in general casualty classes, her understanding of the re/insurance markets and her strong legal background as particular assets for the business.
