Jefferies pledges day of trading commissions for Dorian relief effort

Jefferies is today holding a global trading day for Hurricane Dorian relief efforts in the Bahamas.

Jefferies is offering global investors the opportunity to assist those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Dorian by trading with Jefferies on September 16. It will donate all net trading commissions from today’s trading in the US, European and Asia equity, fixed income and FX markets.

The bank will also donate an additional $1 million of its own money. All 3,656 employees worldwide will be given the opportunity to personally donate to the relief effort. The money will be allocated to a series of charities involved with rescue and recovery efforts.

Rich Handler, chairman and chief executive officer of Jefferies, and Brian Friedman, chairman of the executive committee, expressed their deep concern about the catastrophic devastation in the Bahamas, and the hope that their efforts would help ease the pain of those affected.
