Hartman replaces Vogt as Axis Insurance COO

Robert Hartman has been promoted to the role of chief operating officer at AXIS Insurance, a subsidiary of Bermuda-based holding company AXIS Capital.

At present Hartman is senior vice president of business development at AXIS Insurance. He will step up to the new post in the wake of the recent promotion of former AXIS Insurance COO Pete Vogt to deputy chief financial officer of AXIS Capital.

Hartman will report to AXIS Insurance CEO Peter Wilson and will be based in the company’s New York office.

Hartman joined the company in November 2015. Before that, he was a partner at McKinsey & Company, where he led the Pittsburgh office for five years and was a member of the firm’s insurance practice.

“AXIS has made significant investments in our operations and infrastructure that will help further position our business for growth in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace,” said Hartman. “We’re only just beginning to tap into our potential as a leader in global specialty insurance.”

“I look forward to continuing to work alongside my AXIS colleagues to further optimise our operations to be market responsive and strengthen strategic relationships with clients, distributors and risk transfer partners.”

“Rob is a talented and seasoned insurance executive who has a deep background in organisational, operational and financial strategy,” Wilson said. “During his tenure at AXIS, he has helped guide important strategic initiatives, including playing an integral role in the successful acquisition and integration of specialty aviation insurer and reinsurer Aviabel.”

“He is a highly-respected leader within our organisation and someone who embodies AXIS’ values and culture, including our entrepreneurial mindset and performance-driven approach.”
