Everest Re appoints deputy CUO

Bermuda-based holding company Everest Re, has named Christopher Downey as its new deputy chief underwriting officer (CUO).

Downey joins the firm from from Montpelier Reinsurance, where he was senior vice president (SVP) and head of its global casualty and specialty treaty unit. He also served as a member of the executive committee and the underwriting leadership team.

Before joining Montpelier in 2012, Downey had been SVP at Alterra Bermuda, formerly known as Max Bermuda, where he spent 12 years, and was responsible for managing several of its underwriting and actuarial units covering a broad spectrum of risks.

“He brings a wealth of experience across many facets of the business that will be invaluable as we continue to expand the Everest platform in many different areas.”
