Elsa named as first hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season

Elsa has become the first hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

The National Hurricane Center upgraded Elsa to hurricane status on July 2, based on surface observations from Barbados.

Elsa is a category one hurricane and in the early hours of July 5 was located south of Cuba. There were storm surge and tropical storm watches and warnings in place on the West coast of Florida.
