Canopius adds to cyber team

Bermuda-based specialty re/insurer Canopius has increased its cyber insurance division by 38% since the start of the year.

Canopius said it had hired ten new employees in its cyber segment, bringing the total to 36.

The latest addition is Lewis Gayle, who joins the company as an underwriter for cyber and technology, reporting to Michael Shen (pictured), head of cyber and technology, London.

Gayle previously held underwriting and claims adjustment roles at CFC Underwriting. Before this, he held roles in claims and underwriting at Marsh, QBE and Willis Towers Watson.

Other recent hires for Canopius’ cyber team include Isabel Finn as senior cyber threat intelligence analyst to launch Canopius’ in-house cyber threat consultancy and nine new hires to launch Canopius’ dedicated global cyber incident management team in June.

The company said: “This stream of appointments marks Canopius’ commitment to delivering a first-class service to insureds of all sizes as the cyber market continues to mature and new risks evolve. For example, Canopius launched the first digital asset custody product on the Lloyd’s Asia platform earlier this year, combining cyber, specie and crime expertise.”

Shen said: “In Lewis we have a stellar addition to our cyber team, which continues to go from strength to strength.

“In an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape, Lewis’ expertise will fortify our delivery of the high-quality, expert technical service for which Canopius is known.”

Gayle said: “The economic impact of cybercrime on businesses is on an upward trajectory and now more than ever, the industry needs to support clients with the right cyber risk mitigation strategies.

“Joining Canopius during this momentous period of growth is an exciting opportunity and I look forward to working in a team with such a depth of experience.”
