Bermuda heads to RIMS

A strong Bermudian delegation is expected to attend the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) annual conference in New Orleans.

Bermuda’s Premier, Michael Dunkley, will attend the conference, accompanied by Finance Minister Bob Richards and Economic Development Minister Dr Grant Gibbons.

The chief executive officer of the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), Jeremy Cox, and Shelby Weldon, director, licensing and authorisations for the BMA, will also attend.

“Bermuda has always had a special relationship with RIMS, and ‎I’m pleased to be joining my Ministerial colleagues and our insurance and business leaders at next week’s conference,” said Dunkley.

“This annual event affords us an invaluable opportunity to network with our existing industry partners, build new relationships, and tell the Bermuda story of why we are known as the ‘World's Risk Capital‎,’” said the Premier.

“I’m particularly excited about seeing the Bermuda booth, which is always a favourite for conference delegates. A considerable amount of work has been done by the BDA to showcase ‘Team Bermuda’ and all involved should be commended for their efforts.”

More than 150 local industry delegates are expected to attend the conference, which attracts close to 10,000 risk management professionals, as well as senior executives and other decision-makers, along with 400 exhibitors.

Weldon said: “The Authority is pleased to once again be partnering with the BDA at RIMS—easily the largest and most important annual conference for the worldwide risk transfer industry.

“Increased competition, the prevailing soft market, and evolving international regulatory standards are all anticipated to be hot topics at this year’s conference and the Authority will be happy to answer any questions that prospective Bermuda insurers may have in this regard.”
