Axis Capital pledges to do more to recruit UK veterans

Axis Capital Holdings has committed to do more to employ and give opportunities to veterans of the UK Armed forces.

The Bermuda-based re/insurer has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which aims to ensure members of the UK armed forces community have access to products, services and employment opportunities equal to any other citizen in the UK.

The Covenant encourages businesses and organisations to make written, public pledges outlining specific actions they will undertake to support and improve the opportunities for current members of the armed forces, veterans, and their families.

Axis has pledged to ensure its recruitment prices gives veterans and their families have fair and equal opportunities to apply for roles without preconception, to recognise the commitment that reservists have to honour as part of their military service and to raise awareness of the opportunity that Armed Forces reservists, veterans, and their families can offer Axis, both through their extended skillsets and their focus on delivery.

“In recognition of the valuable skills and experience that serving military personnel, veterans, and their families bring to the workplace and wider society, in addition to their commitment and service to their countries, on behalf of Axis, I am proud to become a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant,” said Vince Tizzio, Axis CEO. “In our pledges, we aim to strengthen the support we provide to our colleagues who are also serving members of the armed forces, veterans and family members through inclusive HR strategies that recognise their important miliary commitments and help Axis to attract a more diverse and multiskilled team globally.”

Recent measures by AXIS to help to attract and retain high-quality personnel with a military background have included reviewing our recruitment and HR processes to ensure they are supportive, investing in events and facilitating work placements through the Lloyd’s Military Network’s work placement programme.

Such measures led to Axis receiving a bronze award from the UK government’s Employer Recognition Scheme in July 2023. In the US, Axis is developing links with the Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve Support programme where employers can recognise the value of colleagues that have ongoing military service.
