AXA XL appoints new APAC & Europe captives head

Bermuda-domiciled AXA XL has appointed a new head of captives & facultative underwriting for APAC & Europe.

Marine Charbonnier, promoted from global programs and captives regional director for Europe, will bolster its captives business. She will work closely with the company’s underwriting teams to support existing and new captive programmes for clients and implement AXA XL’s outward facultative underwriting strategy, supporting local underwriters.

Charbonnier joined AXA in 2013 as head of risk financing solutions before promotion to head of integrated solutions for alternative risk transfer in 2018. Before AXA, she spent over 20 years at Gras Savoye in various strategic roles in captives and ART.

“Interest in captives has risen sharply over the last three years, with our clients either owning, growing or looking to open a captive. They are a strategic risk management tool for our clients and an area of growth for our business,” said Etienne Champion, chief underwriting officer, APAC & Europe at AXA XL.
