Arch taps Chaucer for political violence underwriter

A subsidiary of Arch Capital has tapped an experienced underwriter from Chaucer to focus on political violence risks in the Middle East and North Africa.

Arch Insurance International said it had appointed Jalal Chtioui (pictured) to the position of senior underwriter, terrorism, political violence and war, effective immediately.

Arch said Chtioui will focus on underwriting political violence risks in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and will support Arch’s continued expansion in the region across additional areas, including casualty lines. Based in London, he will report to Andrew Bauckham, head of terrorism, political violence and war.

Chtioui joins Arch from Chaucer MENA Underwriting Limited, where he was regional development underwriter, and previously held roles at Lockton and Zurich. He also has significant cross-class experience including general liability, cyber, and financial and professional lines.

Bauckham said: “Jalal is an exciting new addition to the team. He brings a wealth of experience, expertise and local knowledge, gained from nearly a decade in Dubai, to support our continued expansion in the MENA region.

"He will be a valuable asset to both our team and other specialty areas within Arch, as we continue to strengthen our market standing, service proposition and relevance to our brokers.”
