American International Group (AIG) has promoted Anthony Baldwin to chief executive officer (CEO) of the group’s UK operations. The role is in addition to Baldwin’s current responsibilities as CEO and board director of AIG Europe (AEL), the UK-domiciled European legal entity. He will report into Robert Schimek, executive vice president, CEO, commercial. “The UK has delivered a strong performance in 2015, thanks to the hard work and creativity of the entire team,” said Schimek. “Under Anthony’s strong leadership, I am confident that the UK team will build on this momentum and continue to expand the business by effectively balancing growth, profitability and risk.” Baldwin added: “I am delighted to be assuming responsibility for AIG in the UK at an exciting time for the business and look forward to working with our talented team to realise the great potential for profitable growth in the UK market.” Baldwin, who already plays a leading role in formulating AIG’s growth strategy for Europe, has 20 years’ experience at AIG, which also operates in Bermuda. He first joined the firm in 1995, serving as financial institutions manager in the financial lines division for the UK and Ireland.
