IGI appoints Malcolm Barnes to head up specialty treaty operations

Bermuda-based International General Insurance (IGI) has appointed a London market professional Malcolm Barnes (pictured) as new head of specialty treaty.

Based in IGI’s London office, Barnes is responsible for building and managing the company’s specialty treaty reinsurance business, adding further depth and breadth as well as a dedicated London presence to IGI’s reinsurance team.

Barnes, who has more than 35 years’ experience in the London market, joins IGI from Amlin Syndicate 2001. There, he was responsible for the marine treaty reinsurance team. Prior to that, Barnes held senior roles in specialty reinsurance lines for other Lloyd’s syndicates.

Chris Jarvis, chief underwriting officer, IGI, said: “We are excited to bring Malcolm on board as part of our reinsurance team. He comes with significant underwriting experience and will be a strong fit as IGI continues to build its treaty reinsurance portfolio.

“His experience and network will be an asset to IGI as we look to expand specialty treaty within our reinsurance portfolio, with particular focus on marine, energy and terror/political violence.”
