Aspen taps Berkley for inland marine underwriter

Aspen Insurance Holdings has appointed former Berkley Fire & Marine chief underwriting officer Michael Tate to head its inland marine product and underwriting. 

Tate had been CUO of Berkley since 2021 was previously with The Hartford Insurance Co. from 2005 in a variety of increasingly executive level roles, including his most recent position there as Head of Marine.

In this newly created role at Aspen, Michael will be responsible for the design, implementation and execution of insurance solutions related to the US inland marine business. 

"He also will be actively engaging with brokers on their appetite, risk management and digital underwriting needs, as well as collaborating closely with Aspen’s First Party lines of coverage," the company said. 

Tate will report to Josh Jennings, SVP, head of inland marine and property programmes. 

Jennings said: “We are thrilled to welcome Mike to our team, bringing more than 18 years of invaluable experience that will undoubtedly enhance our inland services and elevate the client experience to new heights.”

Tate will be based in Chicago and joined Aspen on Monday.
