Antares has appointed Ahmed El Tabbakh as interim leader with immediate effect following the death of chief executive officer Mike van der Straaten, as the company begins the process of establishing a permanent leadership structure.
Ahmed El Tabbakh (pictured), group chief business officer – international at Qatar Insurance Company (QIC), Antares’s parent company, will assume interim leadership of the Antares businesses with immediate effect while the company finalises a permanent leadership arrangement.
El Tabbakh has been with QIC for almost 15 years and currently leads the group’s international operations across the UK, Bermuda, Switzerland and Malta. He is also a member of QIC’s executive committee and is responsible for international growth, strategic acquisitions, digital innovation and product development.
Since 2019, El Tabbakh has served as a board member of Antares Global Holding Company and Antares Syndicate at Lloyd’s, alongside board positions across several other QIC international re/insurance entities.
