Canopius appoints Robertson as deputy CEO
Canopius Group has appointed Neil Robertson as deputy group chief executive officer.
Robertson takes up his post on May 4, 2021 and will report to Michael Watson, group chairman and chief executive. After a suitable transition period Robertson is expected to assume the role of group chief executive, with Watson continuing as chairman.
Robertson has a background in underwriting and executive management and has spent 30 years in the London insurance industry. He was previously at AXA XL where he was most recently chief executive of global specialty, overseeing a multi-billion dollar global portfolio. He has also served as chief executive of insurance underwriting for XL Catlin and spent seven years as chief executive officer of XL Group’s Lloyd’s Managing Agency.
Watson said, after 20 years in which he has led Canopius, it is the right time to start planning for the next generation of leadership.
“Over the last 20 years, we have built a highly valued franchise and an excellent team. But there’s more we can do to expand our footprint and enhance our reputation and performance,” he said.
