RenRe appoints Shannon Lowry Bender as group general counsel and corporate secretary

RenaissanceRe Holdings has named Shannon Lowry Bender as senior vice president, group general counsel and corporate secretary.

She takes up her new position on January 1, 2021, succeeding Stephen Weinstein, who held those positions, as well as chief compliance officer and will be leaving RenaissanceRe on December 31, 2020.

Weinstein will continue to serve as an advisor to RenRe for 12 months.

Bender will be based in Bermuda, pending Bermuda immigration approval. She has over 25 years of experience in corporate law, governance and mergers and acquisitions and joins from CIT, a publicly listed financial and bank holding company, where she was chief corporate counsel. Before that she was a partner at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in New York.

Kevin O’Donnell, chief executive officer at RenRe, thanked Weinstein for nearly two decades of service with RenaissanceRe. “He has served as a trusted advisor to our company as we have expanded our global platforms and diversified our business,” he said. “In addition to his many accomplishments as group general counsel, [Weinstein] has also advanced our industry’s leadership in natural disaster risk mitigation, especially related to climate change.”
