Matt Paskin assumes the top job at Convex Re Bermuda

Convex Group has appointed Matt Paskin as chief executive of Convex Re (Bermuda).

Paskin replaces co-founder and group deputy chief executive Paul Brand in the role. Brand remains on the board of the Convex, Convex Re and Convex Insurance UK.

Paskin has over 35 years of industry experience. He remains as group chief underwriting officer for reinsurance, a position he has held since Convex launched in May 2019, in addition to his new role. He was previously chief underwriting officer of XL Catlin Re, having joined Catlin in 1993 as a class underwriter. Before joining XL Catlin he was at the EF Williams Syndicate.

Meanwhile, Theo Butt has been appointed as chief executive of Convex Insurance UK, a position also formerly held by Brand.

Butt has over 20 years’ experience in the London market joined Convex as a consultant in April 2020 to lead a number of special projects within the business. Before that he was chief executive of Neon Underwriting, which he joined from Ascot, where he spent over 12 years, most recently as head of non-marine in the executive underwriting team. He has also held roles at Marsh and JLT.

Both appointments are subject to regulatory and immigration approvals.

Brand said: “We launched Convex to be the insurance company of the future; an innovative insurance partner that challenges the status quo by putting fairness and honesty at the centre of our singularly client-focused proposition. Our success in achieving this is dependent on the people we work with.”
