Kathleen Reardon named as CEO of Hiscox Re & ILS

Hiscox has appointed Kathleen Reardon as chief executive of Hiscox Re & ILS.

She will succeed Mike Krefta, who is set to step down from the position in early 2021.

Reardon was most recently chief executive officer of Hamilton Re, and spent her early career at ACE in a variety of actuarial and underwriting roles, rising to chief underwriting officer for international property at ACE Tempest Re in Bermuda in 2005.

She joined Hamilton Re in 2013 as chief underwriter for property, and was appointed chief executive in 2014, a post she held until 2020. She is also a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and the former chair of Women in Reinsurance, which she co-founded. She also served as the chair of the Reinsurance Association of America in 2020.

Assuming the appointment receives regulatory approval, Reardon will sit on the Hiscox group executive committee and will be based in Bermuda, leading the reinsurance and ILS teams, which operate from Bermuda and London.

Bronek Masojada, Hiscox group chief executive, hailed Reardon’s market knowledge and leadership skills, which he said will ensure Hiscox Re & ILS can take advantage of a hardening market and deliver good returns to stakeholders.

“She will also ensure our offering to cedents evolves as the market evolves,” he added.

Masojada also paid tribute to the outgoing Krefta, who joined Hiscox in 2003 as a management information analyst, praising his efforts as executive sponsor for its ESG (environmental, social and governance) commitments.
