Elementum Advisors cultivates the next generation of leaders with a series of senior appointments

Elementum Advisors, the Chicago and Bermuda-based alternative investment manager specialising in collateralised natural event reinsurance, has hired Jeff Davis as senior vice president of investments.

Davis will join Elementum in September 2020. He has spent nearly a decade with Aon Securities and most recently co-led its credit practice for re/insurers. He advised on capital raises, while also structuring and executing numerous catastrophe bond transactions.

Elementum has also promoted Paul Barker to the executive committee as its fourth member, after nearly ten years with the firm. Barker is a partner and portfolio manager and joins the committee's existing members, founding partners Tony Rettino and John DeCaro and managing partner Mike France.

Barker has spent his time at Elementum in Chicago and Bermuda and has been instrumental in cultivating many of the firm's counterparty relationships and leading the development of its portfolio construction tools. As part of the executive committee he takes on responsibility for  product development, R&D, talent acquisition and management and other strategic operations.

Partner Jake Weber has been appointed to lead Elementum's newly formed analytics department. The department is responsible for evolving Elementum's view of risk through dedicated research, and providing peer review and support of the firm's transaction modeling efforts.

Catherine Malloy Cummings becomes chief administrative officer to streamline and enhance Elementum's administrative functions. Cummings joined the firm in 2019 as chief human resources officer and previously served in HR functions at IMC Financial Markets and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, among others.

DeCaro highlighted Davis’ experience in a different part of the capital structure for reinsurers. "His joining marks a solid step forward in our strategy to add greater depth and perspective to our investment process,” he explained.

Rettino stressed the investment manager’s commitment to building a sustainable organisation that can endure and evolve with market cycles.  "These personnel announcements underscore our commitments to cultivating our next generation of leaders and bringing new expertise and skill-sets to the organisation,” he said. “We know that underpinning our successful track-record are the investments we make in our team."
