Burns named as president of Blue Atlantic

Jason Burns, the former property catastrophe and property pro rata underwriter for Chubb Tempest Re in Bermuda and the US, has been named as president of Blue Atlantic.

Blue Atlantic is the reinsurance intermediary of Universal Insurance Holdings (UIH).

Burns spent 14 years at Chubb Tempest Re and most recently managed the US pro rata and risk portfolio out of the Stamford office. He began his reinsurance career at OdysseyRe as a property treaty underwriter in 2004, before joining Chubb Tempest Re in 2006 when it was ACE, as a property cat underwriter, focusing on US clients.

He started his insurance career at The Hartford, working in the personal lines division.

Steve Donaghy, chief executive officer at UIH, called Burns “a highly skilled reinsurance professional who is extremely well respected and regarded in the reinsurance business and understands the Florida market very well.”
