Bermuda’s Sompo International buys aviation MGU W. Brown & Associates

Bermuda-based Sompo International has acquired an aviation specialist that had previously acted as its managing general underwriter since 2016.

The company has acquired W. Brown & Associates Insurance Services, an aviation specialist. The W. Brown operations will remain intact, keeping the MGU’s management and underwriting expertise, distribution platform and service capabilities.

W. Brown will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Sompo International. The company said the acquisition complements its broader suite aviation insurance and reinsurance products.

W. Brown’s legacy stretches back to 1948 when Bill Brown entered the aviation underwriting field after his WWII service as naval pilot.
