Banyan Risk names Peter Horrobin as co-founder

Bermuda-based managing general agent Banyan Risk has named Ascot’s Peter Horrobin as a co-founder and co-CEO.

The directors’ and officers’ specialist was launched last July in partnership with reinsurer SiriusPoint headed by Tim Usher-Jones after 16 years with Chubb. The company offers D&O insurance risk products for life sciences, global initial public offerings, the technology sector, and special-purpose acquisition companies. SiriusPoint owns a significant minority stake in the firm and provides insurance paper and capacity.

Horrobin was a senior vice president and underwriter at Ascot for over three years. Before that, he spent two years with Aspe Insurance as vice president of financial lines and was also at Chubb during Usher-Jones’s tenure. There, Horrobin was managing director of Chubb Atlantic Indemnity and vice president working on professional liability and casualty lines.

“I am delighted to be joining Tim to lead Banyan Risk at such an exciting stage in the company’s growth,” Horrobin said. “It is clear that the opportunity we saw to develop a specialized platform is being embraced by clients and the broker community.”

Sid Sankaran, chief executive officer of SiriusPoint, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce Peter’s co-leadership of Banyan Risk.

“SiriusPoint’s mission is to partner with entrepreneurial talent, and having two such highly skilled industry professionals at the helm will give Banyan the breadth and depth of experience to innovate and succeed in the D&O space.”
