AXIS Capital appoints Marty Becker to its board of directors

AXIS Capital Holdings has appointed Marston Becker to its board of directors. Becker serves as a member of the board’s executive, finance and risk committees.

In a 35-year re/insurance career Becker has held various leadership roles for publicly traded and private re/insurance and brokerage companies, in Bermuda, the UK, the US and Australia.

AXIS said the appointment is part of its multi-year succession planning strategy to ensure a balance between longer-tenured directors and perspectives of newer directors.

Michael Butt, chairman of AXIS Capital, said: “[Becker] joins a board that represents a diverse range of experiences, skills and perspectives that contribute to our ability to drive strategic execution and shareholder value creation.”

The board of directors presently has 12 members, ten of whom are independent. Becker is one of five independent AXIS has added to its board in the past two years.

Becker said: “During a time of tremendous disruption, AXIS’ leadership has a clear vision for where the industry is headed, and the company is well-positioned to succeed as a specialty player in the markets that are most likely to see the strongest growth.”
