AXIS beefs up its US excess casualty business with hire

AXIS Insurance has hired Thomas Uribe as an assistant vice president for its US excess casualty business.

Uribe joins AXIS from AXA XL, where he was a senior underwriter for excess and surplus excess casualty for the Western, Central and Southeast US regions. Before that he was a senior casualty underwriter for Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, having also spent four years in excess casualty underwriting roles at Swiss Re. He began his career at AIG.

In his new role Uribe is responsible for broadening AXIS’ relationships with distribution partners, expanding general new business opportunities and the execution of its underwriting strategy.

He is based in Alpharetta, Georgia, and reports to Britt Smith, senior vice president and regional manager for US excess casualty.

Smith highlighted Uribe’s excess casualty underwriting experience and expertise, and his ability to facilitate and nurture strong broker relationships, as valuable assets for his new employer.

“Our opportunity is to engage brokers and clients as they navigate the excess casualty marketplace,” Smith said. “We are problem solvers, providing options, alternatives and results."
