AXA XL’s head of marine for Asia Pacific takes new role overseeing UK and Lloyd’s business

AXA XL has appointed Sundeep Khera as global head of hull and head of marine, UK and Lloyd’s market.

Khera is currently head of marine for Asia-Pacific and is based in Singapore but relocates to London. He takes up his responsibilities as head of hull immediately, but assumes his marine responsibilities on July 1, 2021, at which point he will step down from his current position as head of marine for Asia Pacific.

Khera has been with AXA for more than eight years, joining as a regional manager for the Asian marine and transport risk consulting business at AXA Corporate Solutions in 2013. He was appointed head of marine in 2015, becoming head of marine for Asia Pacific following the completion of AXA’s acquisition of XL Catlin in 2019.

He also spent five years at Emirates Shipping Line in several senior management roles, including general manager, operations, South East Asia and vessel planning manager, operations. He had previously been master mariner/captain at Titan Ocean / Petro Titan and Chem Oil Corporation/ Link Marine, before which he was at BW Shipping.

Peter Welton, chief underwriting officer (CUO) for marine, energy and aerospace for the UK and Lloyd’s market at AXA XL, highlighted Khera’s experience as a former master mariner/captain. His “strength of leadership and depth of expertise will be key as we continue to serve our clients and support them in managing the risks they face today and in the future,” he added.

Anne-Marie Elder, global CUO marine and CUO marine, Americas, added: “His high level of technical expertise and knowledge further strengthens our global hull business and his appointment is a demonstration of the bench strength we have available at AXA XL.”
