AXA XL names O’Malley as country manager for the US

AXA XL has appointed Matthew O’Malley as country manager for the US.

O’Malley was appointed AXA XL’s East US zone leader in October 2020 when the re/insurer unveiled its new operating model and zone structure in the US. He retains those responsibilities but now assumes broader oversight of AXA XL’s collective business activity in the US insurance market.

He has spent 25 years in the insurance industry and has held a number of underwriting and management positions, including AXA XL’s North America environmental insurance business for eight years and underwriting management responsibility of excess and surplus casualty.

O’Malley reports to Joe Tocco, chief executive officer of AXA XL’s Americas region.

Tocco said AXA XL’s new regional focus has been well received by brokers and clients and is already delivering improved efficiency, which he put down to his team of zone leaders.

In his new role, O’Malley “will make sure that we’re taking advantage of our zonal structure as well as combined efforts across our zones,” Tocco explained. “With his collaborative leadership style, attention to data and analytics, and his underwriting management experience, [O’Malley] is well prepared to help us keep an eye on our regional activity and the big picture as we continue to build AXA XL’s reputation in the US market.”
