Aspen appoints CEO for UK business

Aspen Insurance Holdings has named Clive Edwards as chief executive officer of Aspen Insurance UK (AIUK) and Aspen Managing Agency (AMAL).

Edwards, who was part of the original Aspen team, succeeds Mike Cain, who was previously named group chief operating officer, and vacates the role of co-chief underwriting officer of AIUK. He is replaced in that role by Henry MacHale and Jamie Lewis, who become co-CUOs for AIUK, for insurance and reinsurance, respectively.

MacHale and Lewis retain their roles as global head of specialty for Aspen Insurance and head of London, Aspen Re, and Specialty Re global product head, respectively. Lewis also retains his role as deputy active underwriter of Aspen’s Lloyd’s syndicate 4711.

All the appointments are subject to regulatory approval.

Meanwhile Hannah Purves has been appointed as a non-executive director of AIUK, and has been proposed for promotion to the AMAL board in due course.

Purves was previously a board director and claims director at Markel International, with responsibility for a claims team of over 130 people located throughout Europe, Canada, Asia and Latin America. She also served as a board member and deputy chair of the Lloyd’s Market Association Claims Committee from 2014 to May 2019.
