Ascot hires Arch EVP to head US liability

Ascot Group, the Bermudian-based re/insurer, has appointed Brian Chiolan as executive vice-president, management and professional liability.

In the newly created position, Chiolan will have oversight responsibility for Ascot’s US management liability, financial institutions, professional liability and cyber portfolios, with a focus on portfolio management, product development, premium expansion and enhanced distribution strategies.

The leadership position will work closely with Ascot’s Financial Lines underwriting teams and executive management to further Ascot’s strategic goals in the US insurance market. Chiolan will report directly to Matt Kramer, CEO of US insurance at Ascot.

Chiolan’s 30-year career has spanned professional liability, D&O and casualty roles at underwriting organisations, including The Hartford as well as Arch Insurance Group, having most recently served as EVP of Arch’s healthcare division.

“As our organisation continues to grow and diversify its product suite, attracting this level of management expertise is critical to ensure we maintain excellence across our specialty underwriting strategies,” Kramer said. Brian is an excellent choice to lead our management and professional liability initiatives due to the depth of his underwriting background, collaborative and engaged leadership style and his enviable track record which make him a great addition to the Ascot US leadership team.”

Chiolan added: “Having spent the large majority of my career overseeing management and professional liability products, I look forward to working closely with the Ascot executive team in expanding our capabilities and enhancing our offerings to our brokers and insureds.”
