AmTrust strengthens claims team in London

AmTrust International, the UK and International arm of New York based AmTrust Financial Services, has appointed Tom Maloney as head of claims for AmTrust International Specialty and chief claims officer for AmTrust Europe.

It has also appointed Michael Walsh as delegated claims manager for AmTrust International Specialty. Walsh will take up his post in Q1 2020 and report to Maloney.

Maloney is responsible for creating a claims centre of excellence at AmTrust. He is based in London and reports to Angel Mas, managing director of the specialty business unit and CEO of AmTrust Europe. He is also a member of the international specialty executive team.

Maloney joined AmTrust in 2016 and is credited with growing the group claims technical and operation framework, which integrated the Lloyd’s claims platform. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, having held leadership and managerial roles with CNA Hardy, Alterra at Lloyd’s, Aon and Marsh. He led the specialty division within CNA Hardy and was accountable for its claims operating model, while at Aon he was responsible for the UK and international XOL and fac reinsurance and retro claims portfolios for Lloyd’s markets.

Walsh has over 20 years’ experience within claims and joins AmTrust International from Lloyd’s where he was in the claims performance team, responsible for the identification and remediation of underperformance across the market. Before that he spent 11 years at a market leading global TPA as claims operations manager.

Mas highlighted the “fundamental role” Maloney played shaping its claims management strategy and other initiatives that helped it establish its claims function, and Walsh’s “strong operational and claims background.”
