Allianz GCS names new global head of reinsurance and catastrophe risk management

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), the corporate insurance carrier of Allianz Group, has named Hyeji Kang as global head of reinsurance and catastrophe risk management.

Kang assumed her new role on October 1, succeeding Bernhard Arbogast, who will retire in May 2020. The two will work together until then to ensure a smooth handover, and in December Arbogast will step down from the Allianz Risk Transfer executive board.

Kang reports to Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre, chief financial officer at AGCS.  She was previously head of actuarial function, based in Munich, a role she assumed in 2018. Before that she was chief actuary for AGCS in North America, having joined the AGCS Chicago office in 2015 as chief actuary for North America.

Prior to joining AGCS she held various consulting and in-house positions in PwC, CNA Insurance and Willis Towers Watson.

Arbogast will retire after more than 25 years of service at Allianz. He joined Allianz Group as a reinsurance underwriter at Allianz AG in 1987, before leaving to join Zurich Financial Services as group chief actuary after eight years. In 2003 he came back to Allianz as chief financial officer at Allianz Risk Transfer. From 2007 he served as chief portfolio officer at Allianz Risk Transfer, and since 2016 he has also led the AGCS global reinsurance and catastrophe risk management team.

Coste-Lepoutre said Kang “brings deep actuarial knowledge through both her professional background and her leadership in one of the key AGCS regions for more than four years and in the actuarial global team in Munich recently.”
