Chubb appoints Konz as chief reinsurance officer

Chubb has appointed Jeremiah Konz as chief reinsurance officer.  Konz was formerly executive vice president and reinsurance officer for Chubb Overseas General, its international general insurance business.

He succeeds Michael Kessler who was appointed division president of the company's global cyber risk insurance business. Kessler now oversees all facets of that business, including strategy, product and business development, underwriting and service operations, and overall profit and loss performance. The business continues to report into the company's North America and international cyber risk divisions.

Konz has more than 20 years of insurance industry experience, having joined Chubb in 2012 as senior vice president of ceded reinsurance for its North American operations. In 2018, he was appointed reinsurance officer for Chubb Overseas General.

Before joining Chubb he worked as an executive for reinsurance brokerage firm Aon Benfield, providing analytic expertise to large commercial property reinsurance placements working across regions including Dallas, New York, Washington DC and Minneapolis over a 13-year period.

In his new role he takes on responsibility for the design and purchase of reinsurance programmes for Chubb and its business units globally, managing the company's reinsurance recoverable asset and overseeing relationships with its reinsurers and reinsurance brokers.

Konz also becomes chairman of Chubb's reinsurance security committee and a member of its global credit committee.

Kessler has nearly 30 years of experience in insurance and actuarial consulting. He was named vice president of Chubb Group in 2016, a title he continues to hold, and chief reinsurance officer, and from 2008 served as chief actuary for the international general insurance business. He joined the company when it was ACE in 2003 as senior vice president and chief actuary for Westchester, before which he held senior manager and consulting actuary positions at Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Konz reports to John Keogh, president and chief operating officer of Chubb. Kessler now reports to Paul Krump, vice chairman of Chubb Group and global underwriting and claims.

William Wise, senior vice president of Chubb's North America professional liability and cyber practice, reports jointly to Kessler and Steven Goldman, division president for financial lines, North America insurance.

Kyle Bryant, senior vice president, cyber product manager and technology practice lead for Chubb's international general insurance business, reports jointly to Kessler and Tim Stapleton, executive vice president of financial lines for overseas general insurance.

Keogh welcomed Konz’s strong analytical and technical skills and his deep understanding of re/insurance markets globally. “Over nearly a decade at Chubb, he has held important reinsurance roles in both our US and international businesses,” he said.
