Aspen donates £100,000 to children's hospital

Aspen Insurance Holdings has pledged to donate £100,000 ($127,000) to a leading London children's hospital to support the development of a new critical care unit for children with cancer.

Aspen said it would contribute to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity for the state of the art facility over four years. The donation is being made through the Tick Tock Club at GOSH Charity, which is a community of benefactors who are passionate about children’s healthcare.

Construction on the CCU began this year.

Sarah Stanford, chief executive officer, Aspen UK has been appointed to the Tick Tock Club Board. Commenting on Aspen’s partnership and this voluntary board, she said: “The world-class Critical Care team at GOSH does incredible work, and their facilities are vital in helping families face the unimaginable. We are proud that Aspen is able to support GOSH and their work to transform the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses, and I am honoured to have joined the Tick Tock Club Board.”

Established in 2006, the Tick Tock Club at GOSH Charity has raised more than £43 million to help create three world-class clinical centres and one new state-of-the-art intraoperative MRI suite at the hospital. The Tick Tock Board is a group of volunteers who give up their time to help shape the direction of the club and play an active role in supporting the delivery of their £20m Tick Tock Campaign to build a brand new Critical Care Unit.

Funding the new CCU within the Children’s Cancer Centre will provide additional space for the 1,300 children treated in the CCU at GOSH every year and will ensure the hospital’s staff can continue to deliver the best possible care to children from across the UK and beyond who are dealing with the most serious and life-threatening illnesses. While four floors of the Children’s Cancer Centre will be dedicated to cancer services, the CCU will deliver care and treatment across many clinical specialties at GOSH.
