Hiscox appoints head of alternative distribution

Insurer Hiscox has appointed Adam Holberry as head of alternative distribution.

The appointment comes as Hiscox, which has operations in Bermuda, looks to work with brokers and underwriting partners to develop new and additional areas of insurance coverage, according to the firm.

Holberry joined Hiscox in 2012 as a property and energy underwriter with a brief to grow its international property book. Prior this, he worked at Axis Capital and Allied World Assurance Company/AWH syndicate 2232, with a focus on international property and managing general agent (MGA) business.

Holberry will report to David Slevin, head of aerospace and specialty.

Also part of the alternative distribution team will be Mark Wallace as head of aerospace and specialty pricing, and Madison Robinson as senior underwriting assistant.

Slevin said: “Our alternative distribution division has already made significant inroads across a wide range of portfolio insurance opportunities; our relationship with White Oak Underwriting being a perfect example of where we’ve been able to add additional auto insurance products to our existing product lines.”

“Adam’s proven underwriting experience and entrepreneurial flair will help us aggressively pursue more, particularly by developing underwriting partnerships in classes of business where we do not currently specialise.”

Holberry added: “Alternative distribution allows us to use our capacity as well as wording and pricing knowledge in new areas of insurance coverage where there is an availability of third party underwriting expertise.

Whether it’s a binding authority, lineslip, master policy, MGA or Lloyd’s consortium, we are open to a wide range of opportunities where we can bring additional value for the customer.”
