Hart steps down as BDA CEO

Bermuda Business Development Agency CEO David Hart has stepped down from his role, citing the need to spend more time with his family.

Hart has been CEO of the BDA for two and a half years and steered the agency through the post-Covid period.

He leaves as the agency transitions to become an investment promotion agency.

Michael Hanson, chair, BDA said: “It is a fitting time in the BDA’s strategic evolution to thank David for his service to Bermuda. David’s leadership through our post Covid build-out phase was invaluable in re-establishing the Bermuda brand in our most important regions.

“As we continue our pivot to a more data driven foreign direct investment agency, David’s ongoing assistance and contribution to the process has been exemplary. We wish David and his family all the best as they move on to their exciting next chapter.”

Hanson added: “We are also grateful to have strong leadership in place through Kendaree Burgess, COO, whose knowledge of and success in both the public and private sectors along with oversight of our board and independent directors will continue delivering on our mission of driving foreign direct investment to Bermuda in line with Bermuda’s Economic Development Strategy. We are excited for the next chapter and look forward to providing more updates in the coming months.”

Hart said: “It has been such an honour to serve Bermuda in this important post and work with such an extraordinarily fine team. After two and a half years of nearly constant overseas travel, it is time for me to transition back to Florida to spend more time with my family, including our first grandchild who is due to arrive in the coming months.

“I will forever count myself as an ambassador for Bermuda and look forward to finding ways to assist Bermuda’s ongoing economic growth. As the organisation completes its metamorphosis into a best-in-class Investment Promotion Agency, I have every confidence that the BDA will continue to capitalise on future opportunities to further develop and diversify Bermuda’s economy.”

Minister of Economy and Labour Jason Hayward said: “It has surely been a pleasure to work with David, as he has proven to be a true ambassador for Bermuda.

“I was able to appreciate his level of professionalism and his commitment to promoting Bermuda’s value proposition, as we worked together on many overseas economic development missions.  I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Questions should be directed to Burgess at kburgess@bda.bm.

"Please reach out to me if you have any questions," Burgess said. "The team and I look forward to continuing the BDA's core mission to drive foreign direct investment to Bermuda in line with Bermuda’s Economic Development Strategy."
