Sompo hires Ategrity Specialty CUO and former XL Catlin E&S head

Bermuda specialty re/insurer Sompo International Holdings has named John Goodloe its new executive vice president and head of excess and surplus casualty for US insurance. Based in Alpharetta, Georgia, Goodloe will report to Christopher Sparro, US insurance CEO.

He joins with over three decades’ experience in both primary and excess casualty in the US. Most recently, he served as chief underwriting officer for brokerage and senior vice president at Ategrity Specialty Insurance Company, which launched in 2018 and in September completed a 75 million capital raise led by Sequentis Financial LLC to support continued growth. Goodloe was a founding member of the company’s management team.

Before that, from 2014 to 2016, Goodloe was president of excess and surplus lines for XL Catlin, also based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“We are pleased to have John join us at Sompo International,” said Sparro. “He is the latest in a series of strategic management hires as we continue to expand our US Insurance platform. John’s 35 years of E&S experience will be invaluable as we strengthen and broaden our team and continue to invest in the E&S wholesale market.”

Goodloe added: “I am looking forward to joining Sompo International, and I’m excited to be joining a team of dedicated professionals with a strong track record of profitability and stellar relationships in the wholesale market.”
