Signal Mutual reshuffles management team as CEO steps into advisory role

Signal Mutual, a Bermuda-domiciled, non-profit mutual organisation that provides Longshore benefits in the US, has reshuffled its senior management team.

Justin Gardner steps into the role of chief executive officer (CEO) at Signal, replacing Richard Wood. Wood continues to serve in an advisory capacity as a director on Signal’s board, and as CEO of Charles Taylor Insurance Management.

Gardner joined Signal in 2017 and was previously executive vice president (EVP) and chief underwriting officer (CUO). Before that he was an EVP and head of US specialty at Willis Re. He also worked at General Reinsurance Corporation for twenty-two years, where he served as global ocean marine manager and CUO.

Phil Schellhorn replaces Gardner in the role of CUO, while Yvonne Poster joins the firm as chief financial officer, with both based in Wilton, CT. Schellhorn previously served as vice president of underwriting and member services for Signal. Poster joins the firm from AmTrust Financial Services where she served as the global head of finance transformation.

Tom Godfrey, Signal Mutual’s chairman of the board, said: “Signal Mutual has enjoyed over 35 years of remarkable success as the leader in the US Longshore market, much attributed to our superb management team.”
