Markel recruit to bolster surety business

Markel International has appointed Robert O’Connor-Mitchell as a senior surety underwriter as part of its plans to strengthen its position in the market. Reporting to Damian Manning, head of surety at Markel International, O’Connor-Mitchell will promote Markel’s surety product offerings and service and underwrite to new and existing clients.

He’ll work alongside Jonathan Finch, senior underwriter of surety at Markel International, who brings expertise from different markets, the business added.

O’Connor-Mitchell joins after more than 11 years with trade credit insurance and surety firm Euler Hermes. There, he worked with a range of surety products in the UK and Irish markets, serving a range of industries, including construction and energy.

Manning welcomed his appointment: “I am very excited for Robert to be joining our experienced surety team. He is highly regarded and respected in the surety market and will bring a wealth of experience to his new role.

“He will be a key and influential member of the surety team and will be empowered to continue building upon the success we have had since the team’s inception in 2017.”
