Lockton Re unveils Bermuda office led by former Aon exec

Lockton Re has unveiled a new office in Bermuda as it builds up its ability to serve clients on the island, as well as tapping local expertise to better service its clients internationally.

The new office is led by Jonathan (Jonty) Davies, who serves as chief executive officer (CEO).

Davies joins from Aon Reinsurance Solutions where he was most recently head of global reinsurance specialty Bermuda. He joined Aon in 2006 and held a number of roles across property, casualty and specialty lines, before moving into the global specialty re division in 2010, initially as a mariner, before later focusing on retro and property specialty. He worked particularly closely with reinsurers and ILS funds in London, Zurich and Bermuda.

Meanwhile, Robert Bisset has joined as chairman of Lockton Re’s global retrocession and property specialty, Bermuda and market capital unit, and member of its global executive committee.

Bisset was most recently strategic growth leader for Aon Reinsurance UK, focused on driving business development across Aon’s London based global businesses in addition to his retrocessional client responsibilities.

He began his career at EW Blanch in 1994 in the US, eventually joining the EW Blanch capital markets division which took him to London in 1998. In 2002, he transferred to Bermuda to assist in the creation of Benfield’s new Bermuda platform and later became CEO of the Benfield, then Aon Benfield, Bermuda office. He relocated to London in 2013 and ran Aon’s global re specialty (GRS) team as CEO from 2014 to 2019.

Tim Gardner, Lockton Re’s global CEO, said opening the Bermuda office is a key evolution in its strategy, and praised Davies’ reputation and experience. “Coupled with our strong London-based retrocession and property specialty team, led by Matt Foreman and the support of Bob Bisset, who recently joined Lockton Re as Chairman for Lockton Re Bermuda, we have created a truly world class team,” he said.

Keith Harrison, Lockton Re’s international CEO, said Davies “will oversee the development of our Bermuda expansion and connectivity, enhancing Lockton Re’s capabilities for both production and marketing of global retrocession, ILW’s, property and casualty and specialty lines. ”

Nick Durant, Lockton Re’s North American CEO, said: “Across Lockton Re we are finding our clear focus on building a great culture, creating industry leading tools and capabilities, and hiring the best people is resonating with clients and supporting our continued growth.”

Lockton Re also hired Tom Parcell in February as chief broking officer, while Vittoria Canale joined last year as operations executive. Tucker Moore joined in April as a broker.
