Everest Re names replacement for retiring MD in Continental Europe

Artur Klinger will join Everest Re Group’s reinsurance division later this year as managing director of Continental Europe, succeeding Stephan Knipper who is set to retire.

Klinger is expected to take up his post mid-to-late 2020. He will bring 20 years of industry experience, and joins from NewRe where he spent 12 years, most recently as chief underwriting officer for property and casualty.

Klinger will be based in Zurich and report to Andrew Carrier, head of European and Asia Pacific operations at Everest Re. His appointment is subject to customary regulatory approval.

Knipper is retiring after serving the industry for 33 years. Carrier said he had done “a tremendous job developing Everest Re’s business in Europe,” while also praising Klinger’s “strong leadership and relationships, combined with his impressive technical and underwriting background.”

John Doucette, CEO of Everest Reinsurance, described the Continental European operation as “an important part of Everest Re’s global reinsurance platform,” promising it will “provide new reinsurance products, capacity and solutions most valuable to our European customers.”
