Chubb strengthens North America claims team

Chubb has named Bill Hazelton as head of Chubb North America claims and Megan Watt as head of North America complex claims, the latter of which is a newly created leadership role.

Chubb said it was expanding its North America claims leadership team to better address today's complex litigation environment.

Hazelton oversees the strategy for all aspects of  Chubb’s commercial and personal lines claims operations. Watt, meanwhile, leads a team designed to complement Chubb's underwriters and business partners to improve outcomes for its clients.

Hazelton reports to Mike Smith, Chubb's global claims officer, and is based in Jersey City. He joined Chubb in 2005 and was formerly environmental, excess casualty and construction industry practice leader.

Watt reports to Hazelton and remains in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. She has nearly three decades of insurance and leadership experience.

Smith stressed the increasing complexity of the insurance landscape that has made navigating claims more difficult for clients. The two appointments aim to mitigate that problem.

Meanwhile, Stephen Buonpane takes over from Hazelton as construction industry practice leader for its large account segment, overseeing strategic direction and leading a team of dedicated construction underwriting and service specialists across multiple lines of business.

He was formerly executive vice president of major accounts construction and is based in New York.
