Argo sells US specialty property renewals to Westfield

Argo Group is selling its US specialty property renewal rights to Westfield’s new specialty insurance business. The Bermuda-based specialty re/insurer has also given several members of its US specialty property team the option of joining the newly launched business.

The transaction includes Argo’s Shared and Layered Property business, which underwrites catastrophic-focused E&S property coverage through select wholesale brokers. However, it doesn’t include Argo’s Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) Property policies.

“This transaction supports the company’s ongoing strategy to reduce volatility within the business,” explained Marsh Duncan, Argo Group, president, excess and surplus. “We are pleased to have reached an agreement that provides a smooth transition for our brokers and insureds.”

Jack Kuhn joined super-regional US property/casualty insurer Westfield to launch its new specialty in July. It follows a career that has seen him build and scale several businesses, including Sompo International, Vantage and Endurance.

“Expanding our property book of business allows us to accelerate our launch into the E&S property space, further ensuring our continued success,” said Kuhn, president of Westfield Specialty. “This renewal rights transaction also gives us a unique opportunity to show our strong commitment to the E&S property market by offering customized insurance solutions, exceptional customer service, and superior claims handling to new property accounts at renewal.”
