Arch Insurance International promotes Simon Williams with mandate to deliver strategic alignment

Arch Insurance International has promoted Simon Williams to the newly created position of chief strategy and distribution officer, with immediate effect.

Williams takes on responsibility for generating and implementing innovative strategies to bolster business growth, aligning and developing strategic objectives across the business, including underwriting, distribution, business development, marketing and communications. He focuses on maintaining and developing key strategic partnerships and initiatives with brokers, boosting Arch Insurance International’s market profile and relevance and enhancing collaboration to expand global platforms.

Williams has over 35 years of industry experience and joined Arch Insurance International in 2018 as senior vice president of strategy and distribution. He spent 22 years at Hiscox, most recently as a partner and head of marine and energy, and wordings. He is also a former chairman of the joint rig committee (JRC) and of the energy committee of the Institute Union of Marine Insurers.

Hugh Sturgess, president and chief executive officer at Arch Insurance International, said Arch Insurance International was creating this role due to the growth of the business in recent years.

“It is vital that we achieve strategic alignment across our activities,” he said, citing Williams’ “pivotal contribution” in the acquisition of Barbican Group Holdings in 2018 as evidence he is the right person for the job.
